It's been three years since the gruesome encounter with evil incarnate, Tiamat. The ancient monster has been vanquished, purged from Kayla's body. However, no one knows what happened, as the jewel that Tiamat's soul resides in has gone missing. Sonic finds out that Kayla is with child after she recuperated, and both reconciled to raise their child once he's born.
The two tied the knot a few months after the birth of Maxwell, a bright, little boy that greatly resembles his mother. Unfortunately, Kayla was forced recruited into the Royal Secret Service as "punishment" for Tiamat's crimes when she was still inhabited in her body. So, consequently, she's forced to leave her son often times under the care of his grandparents, Jules and Bernie, as Sonic is still greatly involved with the Freedom Fighters.
Here, the family has a moment of peace between their "jobs", and Sonic is teaching Max how to walk, one step at a time.
I really like CatbeeCache's art style. Seems to fit especially well with the "feeling" of the picture. :)
